Much Ado About Nothing is set in Sicily, and this will be an outdoor, summery, (hopefully) sunny production, so it was important to get across a feeling of the warm outdoors. Dan Winder, director of Iris Theatre, asked me to create a design involving orange trees and moroccan architecture. I liked the idea of the title sort of hiding behind the orange trees, as there's a lot of hiding and spying in the play. There are also a lot of insults in the play, a couple of which I decided to scratch in to the pots, like old-fashioned graffiti.
