For Winter at the Young Vic, I wanted to photograph a bed hanging in mid air in the middle of a forest, with noir-esque shafts of light coming through the slats. Easier said than done... I bought a miniature bed, and suspended it in the air using a clamp in front of a black background. I then stood above the bed holding a torch, and my assistant (Dad!) stood below with an iron, puffing out steam in order to pick up the shafts of light, turned all the lights off and took lots and lots of photos until we got the perfect shot!
