Two Michaels were involved in the making of this poster - the fantastic photographer Michael Wharley, who photographed the actors, and the also-fantastic Michael Pitt, my very own dad, who photographed the rose. There are plenty of stock images of roses available of course, but they all have a relatively shallow depth of field (the back of the rose is out of focus). For this project, I needed every part of the rose to be in focus, because the title needed to sit in front of the other photographs (if the back of the rose was out of focus, it wouldn't make sense for the characters behind it to be in focus). In order to achieve a perfectly sharp photograph of a rose, we took 30 different photographs of the rose, focused at different points, and merged them together (using a piece of software called Helicon). More complicated than it looks!
