Romeo & Juliet

For this poster I wanted to show the destruction of a rose, symbolising the couple's love. I experimented with ways of breaking the rose - including literally slicing it in half with a knife. I liked the idea that the rose would be falling through the air, sort of out of control. That was tricky to achieve in a photograph because it would be near impossible to slice the rose whilst it was falling, so instead I cut the rose, then put it on a piece of glass, which enabled me to shine lights from behind it in order to give the appearance that it's not sitting on a solid surface. I enjoyed working on the typography for this too - this theatre company use Elizabethan style costumes and create traditional work, but with a contemporary twist, so I took some timeless fonts and added blackletter elements to the R and J in order to give a subtle Elizabethan feel.
